There are none that are more important that understanding how to ensure that you can control the behavior of your child when it comes to parenting skills. During this time, the child is in school all day meaning that they are being around ideas and behavior that you as a parent may deem appropriate. So you must start at home dealing with the manners, the idea and the behavior that you deem appropriate.

The following are some parenting tips specifically geared towards elementary schoolers to make sure that your children behave appropriately during any situation:

Make sure that your child understands that even when they do not agree with what another person says, whether that person be an adult or a child, that you simply accept their viewpoint and move on. This kids more accepting of differences that will transfer into their life when they are older.

Do not accept back talking or door slamming from the child as a way for them act out against you. This is more geared towards those older elementary schoolers, who are starting to get their own views of what is best and are trying to gain their independence. You need to explain that this type of behavior is unacceptable and is very rude.

Do not simply tell you your child to do something that they are against. This may go against parenting advice that they have heard before. However, it is known that if you listen to your children and then explain to them calmly what you think they should do, more times than not, kids come around to your way of thinking.

Encourage manners in children during this age so that these manners will stick with them for the rest of their life. Not only is it nice to hear children saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, but it is a growing trend nowadays, and is one that shows respect for others.

Make sure that you give praise for those times that your children do behave appropriately. It is important that as a parent you are not constantly disciplining the child because, then they have no reason to behave good because it is not acknowledged.
